On Top Of Mt Kilimanjaro

Summit photo Mt Kilimanjaro Africa - (Height 19,341ft)

This is the summit photo at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa which we climbed in March 2008. The total time that it took my mate Poff (Nickname) and myself to summit and return to base-camp was 3 days. This was a quick accent time in comparison to what it normally takes to summit. We climbed so quickly because it was the mountain to test our mental resolve and fitness to advance to the other mountains in the 7 Summits Challenge.

No doubt physiology plays a big part in climbing mountains that are high in altitude, so we were pleased that we did not succumb to high altitude sickness or extreme fatigue. We climbed Mt Kilimanjaro up the steeper and more challenging Umbwe Route. We also elected to carry our full packs that weighed in at over 25kg.

In the end, we were both happy with our overall performance and we both came away from the climb feeling the remaining mountains in the 7 Summit Challenge were well within our reach.

The remaining mountains in the 7 Summits Challenge that we need to complete are Mt Elbrus (Russia), Mt Aconcagua (Argentina), Mt Denali (Alaska), Mt Vinson (Antarctica) and Mt Everest (Himalayas).
