A Sense Of Adventure – Where It Began

I feel the adventure streak was always inside me at a young age. At 17 I joined the Australian Army and after basic training, went to the Australian Army Airborne Regiment, 3RAR which was based in Holsworthy Sydney. The life of a Paratrooper is exciting, but also challenging. It’s difficult to explain in words, but you learn a lot about yourself. You confront your fears and push physical and mental boundaries to their limits. There is no doubt the greatest reward was the friendships and the camaraderie that was formed. When you share life threatening and dangerous moments with your friends, the bond becomes strong.

I am lucky enough to still share this camaraderie with my best mate Shane (Poff). We are still seeking out adventures, so we are completing the 7 Summits challenge over the next 5 years. We have 5 to go, but we both know it is the journey and not the destination, so we are in no rush and will fully enjoy our journey of mateship and adventure. You will be able to follow our adventure on this blog.

To give you some idea what an Airborne Paratrooper goes through when jumping from a C130 at 300m above the ground, check out the video below. Make sure you watch the whole video as it has been taken from different angles. Looking at the video footage now, we must have been crazy.
